Gateway 2019

Our Gateway programme has been very busy this year, with more students than previous years taking the opportunity to try out a chosen career pathway before committing either in full time employment or by way of tertiary study.

This year we have 24 Gateway students from both Year 12 and 13, and they have very diverse career aspirations. We are incredibly grateful to all of the businesses and employers who have taken a Geraldine High School Gateway student into their workplace this year. These include:

  • Geraldine Primary School
  • Waihi Lodge
  • North End Motors
  • Quigley Contracting
  • Geraldine Auto Restoration
  • Four Peak Fitness
  • Geraldine Pharmacy
  • PMR (Engineering), Hinds
  • Farmers (Ashburton)
  • Carew Peel Forest Primary School
  • McIntosh Builders
  • Hokonui Radio
  • Hinds Primary School
  • Giles Patrick Builder
  • South Canterbury Aero Club
  • OPC
  • Blairs Tyres
  • Ryan Neutze Builder
  • The Pin Tin

Each year we monitor where our students go when they finish their Gateway programme. Last year we had 19 Gateway students, and these are the results:

  • 5 returned to GHS in 2019 (1 to do Gateway again in 2019)
  • 1 enrolled at Ara (as per Gateway placements)
  • 1 went to Lincoln University (as per Gateway placement)
  • 1 went to UC (as per Gateway placement)
  • 1 went to Telford, Equine (as per Gateway placement)
  • 3 gained full time employment &/or apprenticeship as direct result of placement
  • 2 in apprenticeships related to Gateway placement but different employers
  • 5 entered employment locally.

Applications for next year’s Gateway programme will open next term. Keep an eye out for more information at our Course Conferencing and Subject Evening events.
