Matariki Festival by

Year 9 students volunteer to support students at Woodbury School

Three of our Year 9 boys, Dylan Wilton-Armitage, Reagan Rangiawha and Andrew McMillan, volunteered to support Woodbury upper Primary boys with their Utaina Haka practice for their recent Woodbury Matariki Festival performance.

When available, the students travelled from GHS to Woodbury and worked alongside the boys to develop their actions and fine-tune their performance. The boys were very impressed by the high calibre displayed by the younger warriors and the progress they made. It demonstrated that perseverance and practice definitely pay off.

The GHS students were thanked for their support by being presented with Hei Tiki which the Woodbury students had made for each of them. Geraldine High School would like to thank the boys for demonstrating the qualities of tuākana - tēina and hopefully, this leadership opportunity can continue for future Matariki Festivals to come.
