News from the Outdoor Education Dept
The summer has come and gone but I am looking forward to the new year with Outdoor Education students and getting into the outdoors.
The Year 12's have a two day tramp coming up and towards the end of the term a week long trip to the Hurunui area incorporating kayaking and tramping.
Year 13's will be honing their rafting and kayaking skills to prepare them for Murchison Rivers. We will be working in with Peel Forest Outdoor Centre staff who are great instructors and provide a lot of support to Outdoor Education and the School. A lot of work has gone into the new Outdoor Ed gear shed which was donated from the Community Trust. It has taken a few years to find the time and money to finish off different projects inside.
A big thanks to Mike Stephens, Suzie Cleave, Paddy and Jules from Peel forest Outdoor Centre and all the OE students over the last two years. There was motivation to get it sorted when Sarah Foley-Smith would walk past when the doors were open and the room was in a state of chaos, saying "I like looking in your shed, it makes my shed look good!" Thanks Sarah!
Cheers, Hayden Titchener
