Aoraki Sports Awards
GHS had 8 students and 1 teacher nominated as finalistists for the Aoraki Sports Awards which were held on Friday 2nd November.
Mr Wilcox was nominated by the school for all of the time he gives up coach the U13 (Year 7 & 8) Rugby team and our 1st XI Football team . Mr Wilcox has also started up a very successful Triathlon Club. The students train twice a week and enter a number of events which they have been succeeding in. Thank you Stu for all the time you put in to our students here at GHS.
Tom and Matt Harding were both nominated for Orienteering. Both Tom and Matt represent NZ for Orienteering. They both received a NZ Honours Badge from Sport Canterbury. Tom was the winner for Orienteering.
Bailey Booth was nominated for Rodeo. Bailey has been representing New Zealand in Rodeo and has been competing in a number of competitions in New Zealand and Australia this year. Bailey received a NZ Honours Badge and was the winner for Rodeo.
Lydia Burnett was nominated for Pool. Lydia has had another successful year playing Pool. She placed in the top 3 at national events. For placing in the top 3 at nationals, she received a NZ Badge from Sport Canterbury. Lydia was the winner for Pool.
Jessica Adams-Stachurski, Megan Isherwood and Tyson Cunningham were all nominated for Athletics.
Megan and Jessica both had outstanding performances at the Aoraki and SISS Athletics in 2018.
Tyson also went to the Aoraki's and broke the 100m Aoraki Record.
Megan Isherwood was the overall female winner for Athletes with a Disability.
Connor Leov was nominated for Mountain Biking. Connor has had a successful year. Connor placed 2nd overall in the U17 age group at the SISS MTB Champs.
Well done to all of these students and to Mr Wilcox on becoming finalists for these awards and a huge congratulations to the overall winners of their respective sports.

Caroline Bay Relay Championships (Cross Country Relay)
On Thursday 8th November we took 12 students to compete in the Caroline Bay Relay. They all had to run a circuit which was 2km, total of 8km for each team.
Year 7 & 8 Boys team of Matt O’Connor, Ben Goodman, Jonty Sowden and Blair Proudman placed 6th in the Year 7 & 8 Boys Grade with a time of 36 minutes and were placed 12th overall.
Year 7 & 8 Girls team of Emma Becroft, Lydia Hanrahan, Kristin Schoneveld and Charlotte Harding placed 3rd in the Year 7 & 8 Girls Grade with a time of 36.57.
Year 9 & 10 Girls team of Chloe Warner, Molly Kate Morrison, Phaedra Cunningham-Lucas and Amelia McKeown placed 4th in the Year 9 & 10 Girls Grade with a time of 39.10.
Well done to all the runners.
Aoraki Junior Volleyball
On Wednesday 14th November we took 3 teams into the Aoraki Junior Volleyball Tournament.
- Junior A Girls team - 3rd overall
- Junior B Girls team - 10th
- Our Junior Boys team, who hadn’t played a lot of Volleyball before, placed 6th and improved the most out of all teams throughout the day.

Aoraki Junior Touch
On Thursday 15th November we took 2 teams into the Aoraki Touch Rugby Tournament.
Our Boys team were our most experienced team and came 4th overall. They had a close game vs Ashburton first up (Ashburton ended up 3rd overall). They had a good win against Roncalli and Mackenzie.
Our Mixed team had never played in a tournament before so it was a great experience for them. After losing to Mackenzie (2-4) in their second match, they got to play them again and this time won 4-3 . Our Mixed team came 3rd in the Mixed Grade.
Well done to all players and a huge thank you to Mr Blogg, Miss Fogarty, Mr Powell and Zoe Greenslade for Coaching and refereeing.
Patrick Goodwin played Colts Grade Cricket on Saturday 17th November and got 7 wickets for 10 runs after 8 overs. He got a hat trick and a catch. With the Bat he got 28 runs. He will make the South Canterbury Honours Board for his bowling.
