Māori and Pasifika Hui/Fono

Maree Stavert —

Record breaking turn out!

This week we held our first Māori and Pasifika hui/fono for 2019.   Our innovative team of teachers decided on a new format this year with the aim of connecting with more of our Māori and Pasifika students and their whanau.

First up, we had around 120 students stay after school to participate in workshops that included art activities, cooking chop suey and goal setting.  Parents and whanau came along later in the evening and had the opportunity to to see some of the work  produced and then listen to our guest speaker Nick Tuitasi.  Nick was also very impressed at the the large turn out in our auditorium.

We look forward to building on this first initiative and working in partnership with whanau to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for our tamariki.

A special thank you to our GEIS teachers who designed, organised and led this very successful event.
