Principal's Message

Maree Stavert —

Navigating safely in these challenging times.

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2022.  A particularly warm welcome to whānau who are new to GEIS this year. We look forward to getting to know you all.  For the most part, despite the current circumstances,  our students have settled in well to their learning and are enjoying connecting with friends and teachers again.

We are very aware that, as positive cases of COVID grow across the country, so do the anxiety levels of families. In a recent email, I shared our health and safety protocols which are regularly reviewed in response to changes.

GEIS COVID Health and Safety Plan Under Red

Now we are in Phase 3 of our Omicron response, we are no longer contact tracing or notifying parents/caregivers of new cases in their child’s class, as only confirmed cases and their household contacts need to self isolate.  Our aim continues to be to ensure we are doing all we can to continue to promote student wellbeing, alongside a sound approach to everyone's health and safety.

If needed, our on-line learning programmes continue to be available for students to access through google classroom. However, because teachers are continuing to teach their class at school, they will not be available to provide on-line 'team' or 'zoom' lessons for students who are isolating or not attending school because of the uncertainty.

Please note that GEIS currently has no plans to change our current organisation by rostering students or classes home.  Our students are engaging positively in their learning and enjoying participating in the activities available.  Please note that we currently have no evidence of the virus transmitting at school.

Moving forward, it is very important for us all to continue to monitor for symptoms and, if any arise, stay home and get a test.

A special thank you to our school community for your on-going support.  We are definitely all in this together, so do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
