Principal's Message

Maree Stavert —

Welcome to GEIS 2019!

Firstly, a very warm welcome to all the students and whanau who have joined our GEIS family for the very first time.   We hope that it will not be long before your child is well settled in and making the most of all the opportunities we have on offer.

The key focus for our teachers over the first three weeks is ensuring they really get to know the students in their class as individuals.  This year we want to take this to another level so that teachers can connect with their students backgrounds and provide meaningful, relevant contexts for learning that spark interest and increase levels of engagement.  The 'Meet the Teacher' evening that is being held next Thursday, 21 February is also part of this process.  The aim of these meetings is for parents and whanau to share with the teacher anything about their child that they think is important for us to know.  Teachers are really looking forward to meeting you and we are expecting a large turn out.   As always, if this day does not work for you, please contact your child's teacher to arrange an alternative time.

The atmosphere in  classrooms and the playground this week has been very positive with lots of happy kids.  However, we are mindful that this time of the year tends to be 'information overload', particularly for new students who have so many new routines and rules to remember.    Our job is to support students through this transition period, so do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or concerns.

I am very much looking forward to the exciting year ahead.
