Principal's Message

Maree Stavert —

The halfway mark is here!

As we wave good-bye to an action packed Term 2, we look forward to a slower pace over the next couple of weeks.  The last few weeks have been extra busy with open days and nights, sports camps. learning celebrations and report writing as well as all the 'regular' school activities.

Our open days and nights were very well attended by prospective students and their whanau and our class councillors did an outstanding job showcasing all that GEIS has on offer.  There is nothing more heart-warming than hearing our students talk so positively and knowledgeably about their school.    Feedback from our visitors was also very positive and certainly affirmed how very fortunate we are to have such high quality staff and facilities.  A reminder that the closing date for all in and out of zone enrolments for 2020 is Wednesday, 4 September.

As I write this message with the rain pouring down outside, my thoughts are with our Warriors Sports Camp team that are battling the elements down in Matamata.  There is an extreme contrast between the beautiful, fine weather that our Gladiators team enjoyed last week and what the Warriors are currently experiencing.   Regardless, I do know that they will be giving it their all and making us proud in the process. GEIS  teams attend three different Matamata sports camps each year, allowing a greater number of our students to have the honour of representing their school.  This is a big commitment and huge thanks must go to the teachers, coaches, and parents/whanau who work so hard to make this possible.

Finally, I would like to wish all the best  to our four Year 7 students, who will be travelling to Fukuoka, Japan during the holidays to represent GEIS, Auckland and New Zealand at the Asia Pacific Children's Convention.   Safe travels to Rosa Joiner, Amy Hornby, Jarom Rowell, Caleb Wichman and teacher chaperone, Annet Woolford.

See you all in Term 3!

Ngā mihi nui
