Principal's Message

Maree Stavert —

A great start to the new school year!

Firstly, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the students and whanau who have joined our GEIS family for the very first time.  We are a big, busy place, but we have a warm heart and genuine commitment to do our best for every student in our school.   On that note, It was wonderful to see all the parents and whanau who came along to 'meet the teacher' yesterday afternoon and evening.  With well over 80% of families in attendance, it really signals how strongly our community values the relationship between home and school and we look forward to fostering this throughout the year.   Our aim is to work in partnership with you all throughout your child's journey at  intermediate.

We have had a particularly positive start to the year with our Year 8 students helping to provide guidance for their new Year 7 friends and this has enabled full class programmes to be up and running promptly.  Our learning theme for this term is, 'How are we connected?' with a focus on the development of positive relationships and the teaching of pro-social skills that are relevant to this specific age group.

There is alway a lot going on at GEIS, which can be somewhat confusing for our new students.  Our daily Cactus TV show does a wonderful job of reminding students about meetings and opportunities that are available and students can also access this information on the student website.  Likewise, the calendar on this newsletter is a good place for parents and caregivers to check out what is coming up.  Please also take the time to browse through the articles, so that you continue to be well informed.

We are very much looking forward to working with you throughout the exciting year ahead.
