Principal's Message

Maree Stavert —

Talofa lava

Last week we celebrated Samoan Language Week and it was certainly fantastic to have so many students and staff dressed traditionally for the occasion.  We are proud to be a school where culture is shared and valued and students readily embrace diversity.   Plans are already underway for a number of school-wide activities to acknowledge and celebrate Matariki in the coming weeks.  We are all very excited about the opportunity to come together as a nation.

Please note that the public holiday for Matariki is on Friday, 24 June and GEIS will also be closed to students on Monday, 27 June for Teacher Only Day professional learning. So a possibility for an extra long weekend for some.

I would like to send a message of support to all our whanau who have been negatively affected by Covid in any way.  While we are enjoying more freedoms, there always seems to be a dark cloud of uncertainty hanging over us.  I would also like to thank families who have been so understanding about on-going staff changes as we have to juggle organisation to cover classes when teachers have had to be absent.  A shout out also to our wonderful relieving teachers who have been instrumental in helping us avoid disruption. Working together makes a difference!
