School Leaders and Council 2019

Michelle Abbasi —

Each newsletter we will be introducing our elected school councillors. Our council is responsible for fundraising initiatives, promoting our school and our values, providing student voice and working to make GEIS a fun place to be.

Kia ora, it's Olivia Tukia and Rueben Wooster, your Head Girl and Head Boy for 2019, we are part of the Student Leadership team.  The Student Leadership team includes 3 Deputy Head Girls, (Ella Pracy, Luafata Toa Falea, Cate Benson) and 3 Deputy Head Boys, (Logan Taylor, Phillip Schuster, Oskar Ludvig)

Olivia: In my spare time you’ll find me in or near the ocean, either doing surf life saving, training or catching waves on my kneeboard! I have a great passion and respect for the ocean. I love to compete in ocean swimming and my next challenge is to swim from Rangitoto Island to St Heliers Bay. I am the oldest of three children.

Rueben: I am the youngest of three boys.  My brothers have both already passed through GEIS and finished school. My hobbies consist of playing cricket, football, guitar and reading through a selection of books. I enjoy going to the beach and swimming in the sea. It’s quite fun having two older brothers especially as they can drive me around and take me to sports trainings, even more so since my eldest brother is a football coach. I enjoy facing challenges and I hope this year will hold many.

Logan: Whenever I’m not in school I’m playing my guitar, reading a good book, playing video games with my friends or playing sports in the great outdoors. I also enjoy water-skiing and knee-boarding up at Lake Tomarata. I have a younger brother and two older step-brothers. We give each other a bit of a hard time now and then but I don’t know what I’d do without them. I currently have a major role in the stage show Bugsy Malone at the Playhouse Theatre and I also played Corny Collins in the GEIS production of Hairspray last year; I love singing and acting but my dancing definitely needs work. I’m enjoying being a deputy head boy at GEIS this year and I’m excited for what the year will bring.

Ella: I spend my spare time doing one of these 6 things: swimming, acting, singing, dancing, reading and writing. I have a passion for performing and love to put myself in other’s shoes. I always find time to read and write, even when I have a pretty full schedule. I don’t swim competitively but I love water and it takes a lot of work to get me out of it. I am a middle child with four other siblings, who I spend a lot of my time with.

The Student Council is a group of selected students voted by their classmates. There are three sub-committees within the school this year. The School Spirit team organises lunchtime and break activities for students and the Year 8 formal in Term 4, The Values team helps enforce the school values in the school, And lastly, the Fundraising team organises mufti days and fundraising events throughout the school. Its main job is to raise money for local charities and events around the school.

Classes have recently selected their Class Councillors and Vice Class Councillors for this year. We are all looking forward to working together to make GEIS an even better school than it already is.   We recently enjoyed half a day with the council, informing them and doing some team building activities and getting to know each other a little more.

Never be afraid to come and share your thoughts and opinions about our school with us.

Nga Mihi,

Rueben and Olivia
