Ka pū te ruha, ka hao te rangatahi!

admin GEIS —

On Saturday the 29th of November Te Kapa o Tiriwā a group of 28 students competed in Te Kahui o te Rehiā at Rangeview Intermediate.

We had a loud and supportive group of whanau to support the group which was encouraging for our kids. The group had prepared for the competition for two terms during holidays, after school and weekend practices. The leaders for the group were Ruby Leota and Joel McCabe this year.

All the hard work paid off with the group putting on an amazing performance full of beautiful notes, Haka, pukana and our students standing with absolute pride. We also came home with a few trophies.

  • First place: Female Leader: Ruby Leota
  • First place: Exit
  • First Place: Best behaviour and Dressed
  • First Equal: Action Song
  • First Equal: Poi

Our students should be really proud of these results as we are only new when it comes to competitive Kapa Haka and we will only get better. Next year we hope to have another team to take to the Auckland Regional Kapa Haka competition to keep growing students confidence and to stand strong in who they are.

I would like to thank our Tutors for their endless commitment and whanau for their support with drop-offs, cooking and cleaning during practices. Watch this space Te Kapa o Tiriwā 2020.
