GLADIATORS Sports Camp

Vaimoana Vaai —

THANK YOU to all our students who represented our school as the Gladiators at Sports Camp in term two. We had a great week and the weather was amazing!

Special thanks to our outstanding parents:  Joel Robert Burns , Shawn Wanden Hannay, Rob LaTrobe, Scotty Keith, Marianne Rodwell and Marlies Tukia, and our student teacher Joseph Buchanan

Thank you for the laughs throughout the week.

To Dan Willemsen all the early morning trainings, fitness sessions, changes to our team, many meetings with our students, long days and nights at sports camp, these are some of the things that people don't see.....It was worth it!!!

This camp was similar to the story of David and Goliath, with a school who had 40 Goliath's steam rolling people with their size and speed, but our students showed them so much respect by being the heartiest of competitors and never backing down.

So many highlights and every parent will have their own stories of the achievements our children had throughout the week..........

Rugby - at the end of the most epic semi, our boys had tears, bodies were sore from tackling 80kg + boys, but the respect they earned from the sideline was worth so much more! Our boys showed their skills in rugby, showed their passion for the game and showed their connection with the brothers in their team.

Girls Tag - A physical match from start to finish, some foul play against our girls but the last 5 minutes of the game had to be my highlight. Manurewa attacked for 5 minutes diving on the try line, trying to bump our girls off , but our girls stood their ground, tagged the house down and that win, after all the controversy, felt so good!

Croquet - 2 boys who had never played before picked up the game while at sports camp and came away with 5 wins, unbeaten during the entire camp

Boys Hockey - Not one boy in our team had played hockey before yet we made a semi!! In the semi final it was a draw but we missed out on penalty corners (stupid rule).

Netball - the opposition were taller and more solid than the girls, but the skill level of netball that our girls played was so good that it drew in a crowd from other schools.

Thank you again to all our parents for their support on our past 8 weeks dropping them off to trainings in the early mornings.

2nd place out of 9 schools!!!
