GEIS Music Groups!

At GEIS we have a Concert Band and two Rock Bands which are both very popular. Made up of a bunch of talented students they make the most of the opportunity to play in the bands and really enjoy preforming when they get the chance.

Go our Rock bands and and Concert Band!

Rock Band

There is just something about playing in a band with other people that you just can’t get from playing to a backing track. I think it is the sense of teamwork and knowing that we all have to play our part in order to have a good outcome. Rock Band has been my main highlight of my time at G.E.I.S and I will truly miss it. It can be hard to find people with the same interests as you and rock band has really helped me with that. I am totally obsessed with guitar, I think about it all day, figuring out songs in my head, thinking about my guitar heroes, plotting what piece of gear to buy next (It’s a disease), and I now have a group of peers who I can obsess over amps, guitars, effects pedals, picks and other gear with.

The G.E.I.S rock band is a great experience for any keyboard player, bassist, guitarist, drummer or singer that wants to find their people.

Rock Band

Auditioning for the rock band was a nerve racking experience. I knew how much I had been practising the song that I was auditioning, and how much I wanted to be in the band. I got my audition done. Once I got the email that told me I had got in, it was the best feeling. I’ve been able to meet a lot of people that I can relate to, some people in the band have heaps of similarities to me. It has been an amazing experience, I’ve learnt a bit more about how to play an instrument in a group. I would love to be in a band when I’m older and this is a great way to set me up for it. Kevin did a great job of making everything work. He did things like printing out copies of the tabs and organising them into folders for each instrument so that we could teach ourselves how to play the song that we were learning. It is very fun being able to skip a block of school to play music, what could be better than that? To anyone coming to GEIS next year, if you play an instrument I would seriously recommend joining the band. You may not know it yet, but playing in a band is an amazingly fun thing to do.

Concert Band
Being in the Concert band is so much fun. You get to meet new people, experience new opportunities and learn more about music. There are so many instruments to choose from: guitar, piano or even saxophone (and more)! The music sounds so good because everyone cooperates and works together to become the best possible band. Our amazing music teacher, Mrs Chalmers, helps us learn our songs and perform amazing music. We are all so grateful for being chosen to be in the Concert band and in my opinion, being in the Concert band is such a fun, creative experience to be a part of. By Eliza Cook.

Concert Band

"I’ve had the privilege of being in a concert band for two years now, and how much fun it’s been. There are so many talented musicians here, and it’s been an honour working with them. It’s a fun environment, full of good people, and while we all have to play certain pieces a tedious amount of times, we’ll get through. The important thing is, we get to do something I think we all adore: music (no matter how many times we have to play dance monkey). I’ve made some great friends from this group of people, and for that, I’m very grateful. "

Rock Band
Being in a band is a great opportunity to meet new people and bond
with others. If you already play an instrument or sing it is a really good
place to expand your musical knowledge. You will also end up being
really good friends with Mrs Charmers, Kevin Johnson and the rest of
the band. I really enjoy being a part of the GEIS ROCK BAND and I think
you will too.
