Meet the Student Leadership Team for 2022

Michelle Abbasi —

At the end of 2021 we selected a new student leadership team. These students will lead the school council and various groups around the school.

Liam Turner - Head Boy

Kia ora everyone, Liam Turner here telling you a little bit about me. I am interested in football and guitar but I do have lots of small interests as well. I was born here in Auckland and have lived here my whole life. There are many things I think we can achieve this year. I believe that we should all learn to be inclusive and also participate in all things you may not like. Together we will be able to work as a team and do well in school and sports.

Elliot Gear - Head Girl

Kia Ora, my name is Ellie Gear and I am Head Girl for 2022.  Here are a few things about me.  I love to get involved in different things and getting to know new people. I work well with others and always looking for ways to improve inside and outside the classroom. I enjoy both land and water sports. I am very open to learning new things and to be pushed outside my comfort zone. What I want to achieve as head girl is to make school more enjoyable for all. Some people don’t enjoy coming to school and I want to get their thoughts and see how we can improve school for them because if you're not happy you can’t learn.  Thank you, I am looking forward to a great year.

Vidusha Jayasinghe - Deputy Head

I am one of the deputy head boys for 2022. I was born in Sri Lanka but raised in New Zealand. In my spare time I play sports and especially enjoy football and cricket. I love catching up with friends and exploring new things. These days I am even learning how to play the piano. As a deputy at GEIS I want to make student voice heard and get them more engaged and involved with what's happening around school.

Henry Stafford - Deputy Head

My name is Henry Stafford. I am 12 years old. My family originates from England, Wales, and Scotland. My parents moved 20 years ago to start a new life in New Zealand. Some interesting things about me: I am a member of the Glen Eden running club and have begun playing and practising saxophone. Something I want to achieve this year is to make sure everyone makes the most out of their time this year at G.E.I.S.

Corena Unu - Deputy Head

“Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world.”  Kia Orana & Malo e’ lei lei… My name is Corena and I too am your Deputy Head Girl, this year. Outside of school you’ll find me spending time with my friends and family, baking and listening to music.

I want to be a voice for all students, to share your news, to stand out, stand up and take charge. To act and do the right thing the right way. To be helpful, to be encouraging, and of course be positive.

Ella Cotterill - Deputy Head

I am Ella and I am one of the Deputy Head Girls this year. Outside of school I like to play netball and hang out with my friends. This year I am looking forward to hopefully having a non interrupted school year and meeting lots of new people. This year I would like to make sure that everybody has a friend to hang out with at breaks. I'm super excited to meet everybody and I wish everyone a great school year.

Phillip Pocklington - Maori Student Leader

My name is Phillip but I'm better known as PJ.  A few things about me include my parents and whanau are a big part of my life, I'm an active person  and I love to play league outside of school, I also love to eat and meeting new people.  I am very excited and honoured to be a Maori Student Leader for 2022.

Talofa Lava everyone, my name is Aaliyah and I am your Pasifika Student Leader for 2022. I am blessed and honoured to have this role and hope I inspire some of you to go for this role next year.

My hobbies outside of school are playing sports, doing all types of art and traveling with my family. What I would like to achieve this year is to help others be more confident in everything they do whether it is asking for help, trying new things or trialing for something they enjoy or are really good at. I am excited to get to know you all and will continue to set a good example for you all.
