Principal's Message

Maree Stavert —

Here at GEIS our vision is to provide 'An engaging environment full of opportunities and choice'. A look through this newsletter confirms that we have been continuing to provide our students with a wide range of opportunities that will hopefully empower them to make choices about their future interests and pathways.

As the COVID restrictions have slowly reduced throughout this term,  we have been able to return very much to 'normal'.  Highlights have included class trips to learn about the effects of global warming and actions we can take to mitigate the impact. This all came under our sustainability theme for the term of: Whatungarongaro he tangata. Toitū he whenua.   It has been awesome to call into classrooms this week to see the creative ways students have shared their sustainability learning with others.

We were also very excited to stage our first 'mini' production in a very long time.  Special congratulations must go to our music teacher, Bronwyn Chalmers, drama teacher Kasha Klee and our wonderful students for the energy and passion they brought to the project.  It was also fantastic to welcome so many parents, grandparents and extended whanau into our auditorium to watch the performance.  We are indeed fortunate to have so many talented students and staff.

I am sure it comes as no surprise that we are all very much looking forward to the holiday break.  A welcome chance to take things a bit slower and recalibrate for Term 4.  We hope you all get to enjoy a somewhat slower pace over the next couple of weeks and safe travels to those whanau who will be travelling over the break.

Ngā mihi nui
