Meet the GEIS Student Leadership Team for 2021

Michelle Abbasi —

At the end of 2020 we selected a new student leadership team. These students will lead the school council and various groups around the school.

Head Boy & Pasifika Student Leader - Hawaiki Goodwin

Kia Orana, my name is Hawaiki Thomas Maretu Frederick Goodwin and I am the Head Boy and Pasifika Student Leader for 2021.

I come from a mixed background with family all over the world like the Cook Islands, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand, Tahiti and I'm also Maori.

In my spare time I like to play alot of sports, spend time with family, and I also like to play games on my playstation. I'm heavily involved in sport both at GEIS and outside of school.

This year, I look forward to getting to know more of my fellow peers and working with the student leadership team.

Head Girl - Mana Keefe

Ko Ngati Parou te iwi, ko Mana aho. I’m Mana, Head Girl GEIS for 2021. I love sports, dance, school particularly our Spec programme and trying new things. In my spare time I like to explore with my brother, who is 10 years old.

What I hope to achieve as a student leader this year, is to make everyone’s ideas count and work with the student leadership team and school council to make GEIS the best place to learn.

Deputy Head Boy - Charlie Moore

Hi, my name is Charlie and I live in Woodlands Park with my Mum, Dad, younger brother and younger sister. We have two cats, and I am starting to believe more and more that one of them is an evil mastermind.

My hobbies include playing the piano, writing, and exploring. I really enjoy composing my own pieces of music, and being a part the school rock band and production were awesome experiences. Writing is something that I am very passionate about, especially fantasy. I am obsessed with dragons and elves, and am currently writing my own narrative story in my spare time. During the lockdowns I have been doing a lot of exploring with my siblings in our lower bush. I have mapped out many of its valleys and I am very dedicated to discovering all of its secrets.

My favourite sports consist of badminton, swimming and tramping, and I am a part of the school philosophy group, which is a fun way to make new friends, challenge your brain and develop teamwork skills. Most of all, I am a creative, kind person who is ready for any of your questions and queries, and I can’t wait to meet you!

Deputy Head Girl - Anya Ciurlionis

Hi I’m Anya, and I live in French Bay with my mum, dad, and younger sister. I really enjoy living by the beach because I love going out in nature. When I’m not at school, I’m taking part in after school classes like drama, music, and learning golf - or at home, doing things I enjoy, like baking, reading, swimming, art or spending time with family and friends.

As a Student Leader, I hope with the rest of the team, we can keep our school a safe, fun, and inclusive place to be. I’d like to be able to listen to ideas from everybody and hear their opinions. I am really looking forward to working with the leadership team and students this year.

Maori Student Leader - Tremaine Herewini Liddle

Tena koutou katoa,

Ko Tremaine toku ingoa, a proud Maori athlete, who puts family first, and is newly grounded in Stoicism. I am honoured to be one of the Maori student leaders for 2021.  At home there's mum, dad and everyday I’m tested by my three beautiful, melodramatic sisters.

Outside of school I'm active in sport and play league, tag, do boxing and am also secretly passionate about golf.

I want to encourage students to not be whakama (shy) and to get involved in all the Maori cultural activities that GEIS has to offer. Give everything a go, even if it’s new to you, try it, you just might like it!

No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

Maori Student Leader - Kirah Jade Vaega Phillips

My name is Kirah-Jade and I am 12 years old. I am Samoan, Cook Island, Maori. I like sports, baking, dancing, and singing. I am the oldest of 4 girls and I was born in 2008.

I am very supportive, confident, loyal, and honest person. As one of the Maori Student Leaders this year, I would like to be a positive role model, get more involved with students particularly our Maori students, and make sure I do my absolute best in my last year of Intermediate.

Pasifika Student Leader - Tayla Rose Mose

Talofa lava,  my name is Tayla-rose Mose and I am one of your Pasifika leaders for 2021.

I am a confident and very intelligent person. I have been to sports camp and lots of zone days and I have enjoyed my time being a part of lunchtime sport.

I hope to help you in any way I can and I'm excited to see what this year brings and work with Pasifika students from across the school.
