Introducing Karekare Mini School Class and Vice Councillors for 2022

Congratulations to the students who have been elected from Rooms 1-8 and 17 to represent Karekare mini school on the school council this year. Read to find out a little more about them.

Room 1: lleana Hart-Daley - Class Councillor

Kia Ora Koutou, my name is Ileana Hart-Daley and I am the class councillor of Ruma Tahi in 2022. I am twelve-years old and I love playing netball. I also enjoy writing, debating, reading, playing class sports, martial arts, music and spending time with my friends. This year as a class councillor I would love to start a GEIS Pride Society, I think it would be a great way to promote more inclusivity and help everyone at GEIS feel more accepted.

Amelia Hobbs - Vice Councillor

Tena Koutou Katoa, my name is Amelia.  I am 12 years of age and I live with my mum, dad and my two sisters.  Outside of school I love playing hockey, going running and debating.  I am heavily involved in Cactus and enjoy hanging out with my friends at school.  My goal for this year on the school council is to give more opportunities for GEIS students and help promote a positive school culture.

Room 2: Jessica Andrews - Class Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Jessica Andrews toku ignoa, I have been selected as Room 2’s class councillor for 2022. I would like to start off by thanking my class for voting me as their councillor. I love playing Netball and I enjoy art such as drawing, performing, painting, dance and visual. As a class councillor I would like to start a tutoring plan for students with additional needs, More non uniform days to help support charities,  and finally to make each and every student heard!

Douglas Calvert - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Douglas toku ingoa. I have been voted as Room 2's vice councillor. I would like to say thank you so much to my class for voting me to be your vice class councillor. And well done to Jess for being elected class councillor. I love playing sports and I enjoy art like drawing and painting. As a vice class councillor I would like to raise money for lots of different charities.

Room 3: Ava Uhila - Class Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Ava toku ingoa, I have been selected as Room 3's class councillor. I would like to say a huge thank you to my class for trusting me with this role. I love art and drawing and netball I am lucky enough to be selected for Year 7A team. I also like to sing, I love my culture and everything about it. I am half Tongan and half Balangi. I come from Lapaha, a village in Tonga. My mum is from New Zealand and my dads from Tonga.  I have 8 siblings including twins we are all under the age of 14 starting with my older brother at Dilworth then me and my twin sister here at GEIS.  I would like to achieve many things this year. I would like to fundraise for charities and help them out, I would like to support students with dyslexia as this is a personal interest for me.

Lelanie Steyn - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Lelanie toku ingoa, I am Room 3’s vice councillor. I have been In Aotearoa for nine years now. We moved from South Africa to live in a safer environment and my little brother was born in New Zealand when I was four. I struggle with dyslexia. School has been a hard time for me and I would like to thank all my friends and family for supporting me. I love playing sports and I always do my best to try new things. 

Room 4: Louis Hunt - Class Councillor

Hi I am Louis, I have been selected to Room 4’s class councillor. I want to say thank you Room 4 for electing me this year. I love any sport that I am able to play but my main one is football, I have been playing this amazing game for 9 years now. I play goalkeeper, this is one of the positions you can play. I have made it into sports camp this year which I am very proud of; this was one of my dreams since year 5 when I heard about this. Let's switch over to my family, my mum Kerstin is from Germany and my dad Patrick was born in America and moved to Germany when he was only a few months old. I was born in Germany, lived there for around 8 years and then I moved here to New Zealand. I would like to organise many fun class activities and make Room 4 one of the best classes in Glen Eden Intermediate School.

Harlem Mackie-Nash - Vice Councillor

Hey I’m Harlem Rooms 4 vice councillor. I want to say a thank you to everyone who voted for me. I love football, rugby and just any sports that I can play. I’m a hard worker and sportsperson.  I try my best in class and sport.   I want to make sure no one is left out and I want to make sure Years 8's have a great last year at GEIS and Years 7's have a great first year at GEIS. I also want to make sure that people have a fun time at GEIS, it’s a great school with many opportunities for sports and other activities.

Room 5: Waiaria Rihari - Class Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Waiaria toku ingoa and I am a class councillor in Room 5 for 2022. I want to acknowledge all of my classmates who voted for me and Mrs Abbasi for putting their trust in me for these important jobs. Something interesting about me? Well I’ve been to four different primary schools and all four I have made life long friends. I have three siblings, two sisters and one brother. Both of my sisters have moved out but my brother is still at home. I also live with my mum and dad. My hobbies include dancing, kapa haka, and baking. I look forward to seeing some change happen around the school and I hope to help many people.

Ahmed Aljayyab - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Ahmed toku ingoa. I have been nominated as vice councillor for Room 5 this year. I would like to say a big thank you to the people trust me with this role. I was born in Baghdad which is located in the centre of Iraq. I live with my mother who is 30 years old and was born in Iraq. My mother lived in Iraq for 19 years, and my brother on the other hand was born in Yemen and is 14 years old. I look forward to helping all the community around us.

Room 6: Arianna Macaoay- Class Councillor

Kia Ora, my name is Arianna Macaoay. I have been chosen as Room 6’s class councillor. My nationality is Filipino (female-filipina) . I was born and raised in New Zealand.  My parents are from the Philippines in Southeast Asia. I have one younger sister. I have so much to learn about being an effective Class Councillor but I am looking forward to the challenge.

Danny Mklef - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora, my name is Danny Mklef, I have been chosen as Room 6’s vice councillor. I was born in New Zealand, just like my sister, while my mum was born in the U.K and my dad was born in Iraq. I like to play games, hang out with friends, play chess and play board games with my family. My goal as a Vice Councillor is to make classrooms neater so that we are helping take responsibility for our learning environments and helping our cleaning staff.

Room 7: Yasmin Middleton - Class Councillor

Kia Ora, my name is Yasmin Ashani Middleton and I have the great honour of being Room 7’s class councillor. I am a 12 year old girl, who is Indian, Samoan and English.  I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I have 2 older siblings who just like me, were born in Tamaki Makaurau. One thing that is important to me is making sure that all students' voices and opinions are heard and valued. So as Room 7's class councillor I will try my best to achieve this goal. I am excited to embark on this adventure and am ready to be the best class councillor that I can be for my class.

Sophie Senior - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora Koutou, my name is Sophie Senior and I am the vice class councillor for Room 7. I am a Year 8 student who loves art, music and Aikido. I was born in New Zealand and have one little brother who currently goes to Kaurilands Primary School. I am really excited to help the students at GEIS and hope to meet new people. 

Room 8: Charlotte Malone - Class Councillor

Kia Ora Koutou, my name is Charlotte Lauren Malone and I am the class councillor of Ruma Waru in 2022. I am twelve-years old and I love to swim, to read, and be with my friends. I have a little brother who goes to Titirangi Primary School and a cat called Charlie. I am very excited to be involved with the school council this year and to work with the teachers and my class to try and make GEIS a better place. 

Shaurya Bartakke - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora Koutou, my name is Shaurya. I am the vice class councillor of Ruma Waru.  I am eleven years old and was born and raised in New Zealand.  I have a younger brother I like to play sports and hangout outside with my friends.  I am really excited to be on the council.  My goal this year is to make GEIS a better place.

Room 17: Leilani Senio - Class Councillor

Talofa Lava O lo’u igoa o Leilani Senio, hi my name is Leilani Senio and I have been selected as Room 17's class councillor, I’m a Year 8 student at this school and I am one of the many sports captains of GEIS. I have many role models in my life but my biggest ones are my family.  I come from a huge family so I get taught multiple things by them, especially manners and to be kind.  This year,  I want to encourage people to enjoy coming to GEIS and try many new things.  Lastly I would just like to thank my class for voting me and I hope to make you proud. 

Ruby Livesey - Vice Councillor

Kia Ora, ko Ruby Livesey toku ingoa. I am the vice councillor in Room 17 and I feel privileged to have this opportunity. As well as a being on the council,  I am also a sports captain and play a lot of sports myself. My main sport is netball and I have been playing it since Year 2 at Kaurilands School.  I'm excited to help out students and GEIS.
