PEACH BOXING comes to GEIS!

Jacob Prisk —

We have been trialling a new Boxfit programme here at GEIS.

Mea Motu, a national champion boxer from Peach Boxing, has been working with the students. Boxing has positive benefits from improving mental health, increasing fitness levels as well as working both left and right sides of the brain (supporting neuro-development).

Twenty students work with Mea on Thursday afternoons. They laugh, sweat, have challenges and get a good work out. The students are all focussed and dedicated to their sessions. They give 110% and really enjoy working and laughing with Mea. I am so proud of the students, stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new.

"Before giving it a go, I would've never thought I'd find myself boxing. Throughout my life, I have always been a sporty person, although, boxing has never been something I'd do. However, when I heard that Peach Boxing was coming to Glen Eden Intermediate, I thought, why not? At first, I was uncertain of it all, that was until I met the coaches who are super kind and accommodating. After the 4 sessions we had, I've learnt so many new skills, including important life skills, such as; control, focus, and passion. From day one, we learnt the most important thing is to have fun, and at the end of the day, we had just that."   Saffron(student).

"You never know until you try.¨

My knowledge and experience with boxing was limited, so when I had an opportunity to participate, I was keen to learn. I wouldn't describe myself as a confident person in many situations. However, while boxing I built resilience and found a strength I didn't know I had. Through a variety of exercises and activities I developed greater confidence and composure, whilst acquiring new skills. Peach boxing taught me how to face challenges, and push through when I was sore. We had personal goals, during planking and non stop punching which although was tiring, grew my determination. I was proud of my efforts and achievements. Our instructor shared personal stories, and inspired us to keep going. It was a chance to get fit, socialize and have fun. - Frieda (student)
