“How can we protect our Taonga?”

admin GEIS —

Students from Rooms 26, 27 and 28, Muriwai Mini School, have this term been looking at “How can we protect our Taonga?” We have focused on our soldiers who fought for us. The students have written two poems- “Walking with an ANZAC” and “Prayer for the 22nd Century” plus created a website focusing on one WWI soldier.

This unit culminated in the students walking to the Waikumete Cemetery and paying their respects to those buried there and placing poppies at the grave sites. For some students, they were also able to connect with ancestors. Our soldiers are a special Taonga and we will remember them.
