SPORTS CAMP 2020

Vaimoana Vaai —

We knew that if we wanted to prepare our students the best we could, these are the sacrifices we all had to make. We had to do this as a team.

WE’VE GOT THIS

With so many changes in our world today and restrictions, the timing of everything for Glen Eden to be able to attend Sports Camp with two teams (Gladiators & Warriors) in 2020 was a blessing. In normal times we would usually have 4 weeks for trials and 10 weeks to train our students.

One of our major challenges was to fit in trials for over 300 students within a 2 week period, select our teams and then fit in 6 weeks of trainings for both teams. Sacrifices had to be made, extra trainings scheduled in starting at 7am which meant students were leaving home at 6.15am, lunchtime sessions and holiday training sessions were held for the first time. We knew that if we wanted to prepare our students the best we could, these are the sacrifices we all had to make. We had to do this as a team.

One of main focus points was ensuring all our students understood the value of being part of a TEAM, that their sporting success isn’t what defines them. What defines them was their commitment to our TEAM values which are based on our school values, Respect / Whakaute, Integrity / Mana Tangata, Excellence / Hiranga, Resilience / Manawaroa

To our coaches who committed to our six weeks training programme, we were only able to do this with your help and commitment.
