Simon is a contemporary glassmaker(and awesome dad of Zola in Room 17) inspired by urban living and kiwi nostalgia.
Simon's work has a pop art kiwiana aesthetic, which reflects his upbringing and personality as an artist. Ward works predominately with cast glass & ceramics, using techniques of casting & slip casting to create his unique works. Successfully tapping into the sweet memories of Kiwis, Simon has nationally become a favourite New Zealand artist.
Room 17 created the nine Matariki stars in clay. These will be air dried and then Simon will visit their class next week for them to paint before they are glazed and fired in the kiln. From there all the stars will be hung as a mobile installation in their class.
Thank you so much Simon and all our parents and whānau who helped out on the trip.
Thanks Mrs Lacassie for organising this !
What an opportunity and experience !
