- Poipoia Te Kākano Kia Puawai - Nurture the Seed, and it will Blossom -
As we have delved deeper into T2, 2024 and focused on our theme of Poipoia Te Kākano Kia Puawai - Nurture the Seed, and it will Blossom classes have continued inquiring into the context of human biology and health and sexuality. The second half of this term has seen students develop inquiry projects into larger body systems as they prepare for their exhibition of learning in week 10.
Mr Towl has created boxes of science resources for teachers to book out that have included making ‘robotic hands’ where students have learnt about how the muscles, bones, and ligaments work together to enable us to open and close our hands. There is also a box where students can replicate how the eye works with magnifying glasses, black card, and baking paper. Prior to teachers booking these boxes out, Mr Towl held a professional development session where they got to trial the models for themselves.
In week 9 and 10 of this term, we are excited to celebrate Matariki. This is the perfect opportunity for us to connect with our community and welcome them into our Kura to embrace what Matariki represents. Across the school we are utilising teacher strengths by running Raranga workshops (weaving), creating collective Kakahu cloaks for each mini-school, showcasing our Kapa haka group, hosting our Term 2 exhibitions of learning, and our inaugural Hautapu celebration. A big thank you to our board of trustees member Fender for supporting us in this endeavour and to Miss Jaz Iti for her passion and organisation.
