On Thursday 2nd November, GEIS hosted eight schools from across our community for the first Kōtuitui Kapa Haka Festival and it was a huge success!
The schools who attended were Arahoe, Kaurilands, Green Bay High, Konini, Green Bay, Woodlands Park, New Lynn and Titirangi. The waiata, haka and mōteatea performed by all roopu were of an incredibly high standard and it was clear that groups had put in a huge amount of time and effort.
GEIS extends our thanks to all who contributed to the festival, including the performers, tutors, organisers and teachers. Special thanks to the committed and passionate team of student leaders who led the event and represented our school with pride, as well as MC and former GEIS student Josiah Tupa’i who did a phenomenal job of keeping everyone entertained and ensuring the day ran smoothly.
We also wish to acknowledge the hard work of kaiako Jazmine Iti and Vaimoana Va’ai for their dedication and commitment to the event itself, and our GEIS roopu “Te Kapa ō Tiriwa” who closed the festival with their captivating performance. The non-competitive event was a wonderful showcase of Kapa Haka and a great way of building whanaungatanga as a Kāhui Ako and community. GEIS looks forward to attending this festival in future years.
