2025 has started with such a positive energy. Having students back on school grounds with smiles, laughter rolling through the spaces again, music, art, sports, and the quiet hum of a working classroom.

Teachers engaged with professional development in our teacher-only days before the term started. Here we delved into the refreshed Maths curriculum and have begun integrating the new Oxford Mathematics and Statistics for Aotearoa New Zealand into planning and learning sequences.

In the classroom, students have begun working with the Oxford programme, which provides a clear learning pathway for each individual's needs. There is a digital platform and a booklet. It is important to note that both the digital platform and booklet are not designed for students to work through page by page or to be taken home, we may get to the end of the year, and some parts of the book are left untouched. See the Oxford notice added to this newsletter.

Across each classroom, students have also participated in our school-wide GEIS Values unit. Here, students and teachers engaged with the school values of Respect, Integrity, Resilience, and Excellence, dissecting what these values mean at school, on the bus, in the community, homes, hobbies, and with friends. Setting these school-wide expectations in our learning, interactions with each other, and as representatives of the Glen Eden community, supports students to be upstanding citizens. We encourage families to discuss these with their children so the learning can flow across both the home and school spaces.

Our topic this term is: Inā kei te mohohio koe ko wai koe, I anga mai koe i hea, kei te mohio koe. Kei te anga atu ki hea - If you know who you are and where you are from, then you will know where you are going. This topic fits nicely in with the ‘getting to know you’ phase of the year. Students are delving into the individual heritage as well as the Histories of (Okaurirahi) Glen Eden and the wider Aotearoa New Zealand. Learning our histories is a big part of developing personal identity; sharing this with each other is a special experience.
