What a fantastic start to Term one it's been! The energy and enthusiasm I've seen from our tamariki and whānau have been inspiring. As always, my favourite part of the job is connecting with everyone, whether it's a quick chat in the playground, watching our students shine in the classroom, or saying hello at the school gate each day.
I've also been particularly impressed by the kindness and manaakitanga shown by our students.
Intermediate schooling is in place for a specific reason: to provide a learning environment tailored specifically to the needs of this crucial stage in a child's development. This is a time of incredible growth and transformation. During adolescence, the brain undergoes rapid development, making it a pivotal period for learning. We understand the importance of fostering motivation and a genuine eagerness to learn during these formative years.
At Glen Eden Intermediate, we believe that active and interactive learning is the most effective way to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions they need for life. We embrace a holistic approach to education, recognizing that learning extends far beyond the traditional basics. While we remain committed to strong foundations in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, our comprehensive specialist programs also offer diverse opportunities across the entire curriculum.
We are dedicated to providing a rich and engaging learning experience that empowers every student to thrive.
I consistently encourage students to get involved in as many activities as possible, take risks and try new activities. Having a conversation with your child about what they are interested in is a great starting point. Our school calendar has a list of activities that are coming up throughout the year, so identifying these would be beneficial. The classroom teachers are also there to help.
If you are dropping your child off at school, please come and say hello at the front gate. Having parents and whānau actively involved at GEIS is really important to me.
