Ake ake ake - a forever language
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori has a special place here at GEIS. Kaiako and ākonga (teachers and students) have engaged with learning activities in classes that extend their panui, tuhituhi, and pangarau programmes (reading, writing, and math).
As well as their normal learning programmes students have also had ample art , immersion, and game opportunities. Across the Kura, we've made Korowai, taniwha, pūrākau, raranga (weaving), and pāraoa pārai (fry bread).
We started our week with a special assembly, during which our excellent Kapa Haka group performed for us. It was lovely to see the pride these students have! Thank you, Miss Iti and our Tutor, for all the hard work! We were also addressed by Fender (a Board of Trustees representative) on the importance of Te Reo Māori in our everyday lives.
We welcomed our community in for student-led conferences. A very big thank you to all whānau and family who braved the weather to attend their conferences. Feedback from parents and students has been excellent, we take great pride in seeing the joy on students faces when they share their learning with their family.
We've had our annual mathex style Te Reo Māori quiz race as well. This is always a hit with students answering and translating from Māori to English and vice versa, and running their hearts out to the judges for their next question. It's hectic, but so joyful and such a fun way to solidify our reo learning!
Rm29 came away with a win and won the Golden Poi!
Thanks to our amazing kaiako for always providing these opportunities for our ākonga! Thanks to our amazing ākonga for always getting involved with a smile on your face!
