These students have worked hard on creating application videos this term alongside being model students, friends, and teammates throughout the year.  In 2024 their job will be to:

  • Lead the Student Council

  • Facilitate Student Council meetings

  • Speak at school assemblies and parent assemblies

  • Represent the students at public events i.e. ANZAC Day

  • Organise school, cultural and charity events.

  • Gather and enact student voice.

  • Help develop leadership skills in other students (Tuakana-Teina relationships).

When they applied for this role they had to consider the criteria for a student leader and whether they felt they were up for the job!  The Criteria for a GEIS student leader is a student who has:

  • Leadership skills

  • Organisation skills

  • Is a Positive role model in all areas of school

  • Follows the GEIS Values and learner profiles

  • Clear and open communicator with peers and teachers

  • Willingness to help others

  • Peer ‘mana’

  • Takes on responsibility

  • Humility

  • Cooperation

  • Maturity

  • Flexibility

  • Includes themself in the Corporate Life of GEIS

  • Committed to the Role

We are looking forward to leading the student body together next year!

There are still plenty of leadership opportunities available in 2024.  Class councillors, Vice Class councillors, Sports and PE leaders, Fundraising leaders, Kapa haka leaders, Pasifika leaders, Patrol leaders, Enviro leaders, Cactus leaders, the list could go on.  I want to encourage any student aspiring for leadership to step up into these positions and collectively lead us into greatness in 2024!  Listen out to Cactus and keep an eye on the notices on Hail for when these opportunities arise.
