This term we did the Internal Epro8 competition to decide which two teams will go to the regional Epro 8 competition. Since two teams were tied for 2nd place, even though the time was up for all the other groups those two teams kept building. Because they were up to the same part of the same build, the 2nd place winner would be the first one to complete the section.
On Wednesday the 6th of November the top two teams participated in the next round. On the night of the competition, I was so excited but nervous simultaneously. Once my friend Amber arrived I was still excited but probably less nervous. Eventually, after all the teams arrived, His royal majesty (the Epro8 organiser) called us over and started the briefing. He told us about all of the different projects you could build. After that, he asked us to stand at the back of the room and explained some special components and suggestions to help us.
Once the competition started, my team: Amber, Regan, Alteza and I began with the Roller Coaster build. In this build, we constructed a large frame with a set of rails wrapped around the structure in a P shape. A circuit allowed for a continual motion of the ball rising on the elevator, being pushed onto the track, rolling down the track and onto the elevator. As the ball rolled onto the elevator at the bottom, it broke a laser and started the circuit again which raised it to the top. We also started another build but did not get to finish it. The other Glen Eden Team that participated in the competition built a scooter that you could actually ride!
At the end of the competition, my team tied for first. This got us a trophy and a place in the semifinals on 4th December. The other GEIS team was in a group of teams that tied for 5th; if they had completed one more criterion they would have come second.
A big thank you to Mr Towl who helped us prepare for the competition!
