On Wednesday 13th of November, Muriwai mini school went to our beach and built sandcastles, pick up litter, and saw the lava pillows as part of our Science and Inquiry learning.
The day started with classes going onto the beach, some built sandcastles and some people cleaned the beach. While some classes were at the beach, others were walking to another part of the beach to see caves and lava pillows. Mr Towl showed Muriwai the Sedimentary rocks, Igneous rocks, pillow lava, and a cave that had formed on the side of a cliff and explained everything about them at Maukatia Bay (Maori Bay).
Nesting and breeding, Tara could be seen from the beach because the area where you watch the Gannets was closed. The kids from Muriwai loved playing on the beach using our school learner profiles of communication, problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration.
