Kia ora koutou katoa
I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the remarkable achievements of our tamariki throughout this term so far.
I would like to congratulate Emily from Rm 13 who achieved a high distinction in English! She is in the top 1% of students who sat these exams. We are so very proud of her!
I would like to congratulate Ruby from Rm 34 and Zaidab from Rm 18 for their achievements in Korean as a second language.
Haylee Foster from Room 5 who came first place in the Kōtuitui Writers' Challenge Intermediate category! Well done Haylee!
I attended the Intermediate schools Art exhibition in Wynyard Quarter this term and I was so impressed with all of our tamariki's art and it was beautifully opened by members of our school choir. Thank you to Mrs Taylor and Ms Klee for everything around this.
Our X-Factor was a hit and I was so impressed with the talent we have in the Arts here at GEIS. A big thank you to Mr Pritchard and Ms Klee for organising this opportunity for our tamariki. The arts are alive and well at GEIS!
We had our Kapa Haka group perform (photo above) and showcase our Māori culture and tikanga at the Kōtuitui Kapahaka festival which was amazing! Thank you to Ms Iti and our tutors Te Awahina and Talen for all you do for our rōpū.
One of our Epro 8 Teams came 1st place in the local Epro 8 Engineering competition which was fantastic! Thank you Mr Towl for your mahi in organising our teams.
We also had many more achievements over the term and I want to congratulate all of our tamariki for their achievements.
As we move into the last half of the term and year we need to keep on top of our little things like students being present at school each day, on time to school, having the correct school uniform and shoes, having and eating healthy food each day which sets our tamariki for successful learning each day.
I am very grateful for the ongoing support of our parents, whānau and caregivers. Your active involvement in your tamariki's education is a key factor in their success. When talking to students about their learning and projects, invariably they mention the encouragement, guidance and support from home. This strong partnership between home and school fosters a shared commitment to academic and personal growth.
Ka pai!
This week we have had our 2025 Year 7's visiting us for their orientation days and it has been great meeting them and getting to know them already. They are all very excited about coming to their new intermediate and we will work hard with their transition so it is a smooth one. Our Year 8's are also looking ahead to spending some time at their 2025 high schools as part of their transition to high school. It will be sad to see them head off at the end of the year.
I also look forward to our Year 7 and 8 Prize givings where we can formally acknowledge our tamariki's achievements and accomplishments.
Ngā mihi nui
