Travelling safely to and from school
Jacob Prisk — March 19, 2024
To keep our tamariki safe when travelling to and from school the NZ Police safety messages for students include:
- Children should walk or bike to and from school with a buddy as children are less likely to be approached when in a group.
- Children should walk or bike along busy routes where other people are present and not use hidden tracks or areas that cannot be seen from the road.
- Children should not get into a vehicle or go somewhere with someone they do not know.
- If a person is persistent, follows them, and won't leave them they need to call HELP, HELP, HELP as loudly as they can while getting as far away as possible.
- Ring 111 immediately if they are concerned for their safety or think someone is following them.
