The learning has started, friendships blooming, and EOTC adventures are leading the way!
He Aroha whakatō, he aroha puta mai - If kindness is shown then kindness you shall receive.
Students have returned and the learning has started with our school values-based unit of work. This is being done in each class where students discuss the school values daily and dig deeper into what these look like at home, school, and the wider community. We’ve seen students running around the school on scavenger hunts learning who each member of staff is and where to go to get help if they need it, as well as 'value robots' being built, class treaties being created, and values videos being made.
The targeted teaching of the school values comes under the umbrella of focusing on kindness for the term. And with that is our term 1 EOTC programme where teams participate in 4 separate EOTC events, each representing one of our school values.
Resilience - Hikoi/walk with a local history lens
Excellence - High ropes/Mountain Biking
Integrity - City excursion and scavenger hunt
Respect - A community project
Each outing is followed by further learning in the classroom through literacy and social science programmes. So far students are loving it! Relationships are being built between peers and with teachers in their teams, it’s lovely to see their smiles and everyone giving it a go.
SPEC and Ako are also underway with students enjoying the hands-on and creative aspect of these learning areas. Kapa haka and Pasifika have had excellent turnouts and we look forward to these continuing strong.
