Speak up, Stand together, Stop bullying

On Friday 17th May, GEIS stood together with the rest of Aotearoa to celebrate being an upstander and fight against bullying.

Our student leaders led the anti-bullying week with messages on Cactus and teachers had some discussion points and activities in classes. The week ended with Pink Shirt Day where we raised $526 for the Mental Health Foundation.

Bullying in Aotearoa New Zealand is a real problem. As a country, we have the third-highest rate of school bullying out of 36 OECD countries and one in five workers feel discriminated against or bullied at work. Those bullied are far more likely to experience mental health issues.

Pink Shirt Day works to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity in all its forms and supporting schools, workplaces and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
