Gleniti Newsletter 14th October 2020

Steve Zonnevylle —

Kia ora! Welcome back everyone. We all hope that you’ve had a restful and stress-free holiday break and that you’re all fit and well for the busy term ahead.

Our cover stars are Emma and Mia (two of our intrepid Kea crossing Road Patrollers) and Oliver and Matthew. Emma and Mia are on the cover promoting our Kea Crossing on Spring Road. It’s certainly the best place possible to cross the road – Emma and Mia (and all of our road patrollers) are well trained in making sure everyone crosses safely. Oliver and Matthew are actively promoting scooter riding and helmets. It’s great to see these boys leading by example and wearing helmets on their scooters. They obviously value the grey matter between their ears. Great leadership team!

Talking about the Kea crossing. We’re still on the lookout for parents to help supervise our crossing. We currently have Tuesday free for any parent who can regularly help us out. Please contact me at stevez@gleniti.school.nz if you are able to help out.

Term Four will no doubt be busy. Please keep an eye out on the dates coming up. Dates to put in your calendar today include:

· Tackling Technology – 29th October – 7pm. This is a Parent meeting hosted by the school, run by The Parenting Place. This meeting should be of interest to all parents who would like to learn more about dealing/coping with issues around children and social media. Come along and learn some useful strategies!

· Teacher Only Day – Friday 13th November – the school will be closed on this day.

· Athletics Sports – Monday 16th November – Junior School and Senior School events.

In our last newsletter we celebrated the local sporting accomplishments of Flynn Turnbull and Sophie and Emily Best. During the holidays all three were competing again. Flynn and Sophie were competing in Southland in the Tour of Southland cycling festival. Flynn won the Under 13 competition (the prestigious yellow jersey!) and the King of the Mountain. Sophie Best took out third place in her event and also was crowned Queen of the Mountain! Wow, awesome riding indeed!
