Gleniti Newsletter 5th May 2021
Welcome back everyone! We all trust that you’ve had a great break and that you’re all set to head into Term Two with great enthusiasm. We certainly are! Term Two is looking like it’s going to be full of great Gleniti events. We’re looking forward to sharing these with you including: • Winter Sports • Jump Jam • Cross Country • Rippa Rugby • Matariki
There are two Teacher only days planned for the term. The first one is on Friday 4th June just prior to the Queen’s Birthday Weekend. This day will be used for professional development. Our school is part of the Timaru Kahui Ako, and during this day all teachers across the Kahui Ako (over 350 people) will be meeting at Craighead School to hear from academic Russel Bishop.
The second Teacher only day will happen on Friday 25th June.
During the holidays the boiler building was pulled down. What a difference this makes to the entrance of our school already. Over the next week or so the contractors will finish their work, which includes asphalting the area. Once we get our head around what the space left looks like, we’ll then start getting ideas for making our entrance way even more appealing. No doubt some sort of seating, and a meeting area sounds like a great place to start! Watch this space.
Congratulations to the Nesbitt boys who competed in two karate competitions during the holidays. One was a regional event and the other a national event. At the national competition, Liam came home with a bronze and silver. Ethan won a bronze. And at the regional comp Liam earned 2 golds, Ethan won 2 bronze and Cooper won silver and a bronze in their respective divisions. All 3 boys worked extremely hard and represented their club and sense with pride.
In our last newsletter we asked our community to fill in a survey regarding the Silver Birches. We’d like to give parents and whanau a little bit of extra time to fill in this survey. It will close on Monday morning.
As you will have read, over the term we have been working with our neighbours on our northern boundary about our line of Silver Birches. This line of over 80 trees plays a significant allergy threat to many, and can be a huge nuisance in regards to property management. Our northern boundary neighbours have agreed to fund the removal of the trees, and we plan to over time plant the boundary with natives. But before we do this we need your support and advice in regards to this significant move! Please take time to follow the link, read the extra information about this proposal and then tell us what you think. The survey can be found at https://tinyurl.com/dkrrkphw
We’re looking forward to hearing what you think.
This week we welcomed Nadine Rawlins to our administration team. Nadine is our new Finance Officer. She replaces Amanda Everett who has left to take on a new role at Sport Canterbury. A huge thank you to Amanda for all the mahi that she has done for the school over the last five years! All the best for the future Amanda.
