Gleniti Newsletter 9th December 2020

Steve Zonnevylle —

Kia ora! Phew, we’ve done it … well almost! We’re almost at the end of the school year. This newsletter will be our last for 2020. Fittingly our cover represents just some of the many things that made our year a success – albeit in challenging and uncertain times. There have certainly been disappointments along the way, but in true Gleniti spirit we’ve shown what a resilient bunch we are and we’ve made it to December in pretty good shape! Well done everyone!

Last night at Basketball was a classic example of this. It was the last night of the Yr 3-6 South Canterbury competition. We had teams playing off for 3rd and 4th and finals. Our Yr 3-4 Boys teams won their 3rd/4th playoff game in a game of true determination and grit! What a game. It was the same in the Yr 5-6 Girls B Final and the Yr 5-6 Boys A Final. Although we lost both of these games, the determination and grit was still there, right until the very end. It was a classic example of the ups and down that 2020 has given us – and a classic example of how we just got on with it anyway, with a smile on our face and a passion in our hearts. All of us watching were immensely proud. I’m sure you would’ve been too J

A huge thank you to all our coaches, managers, organisers and supporters for yet another successful basketball season.

On Tuesday night (15th December) we all meet at the South Canterbury Events centre on Morgans Road for one final celebration of the year. This is our wonderful End of Year Celebration. All children (Yr0-8) are expected to be seated by 6:15pm – in their uniforms please, unless they have been directed otherwise by their teachers as part of their item. All of us at school are really excited about seeing you all at the event and sharing with you the successes of the year. We’re expecting that the event will be over by 7:45pm at the latest. See you there!

In the last few years we have invited businesses and families to sponsor our End of Year Celebration. Last year we had sixteen sponsoring us. This was crucial in paying for the hireage of the event centre and the sound system. If you would like to sponsor the event ($100) then please email me stevez@gleniti.school.nz your business logo and contact details and we’ll make sure that your business is promoted in the event programme. Payment can be made to Gleniti School 12-3159-0063939-00 and please use your business name as a reference! If you would prefer an invoice then please contact amandae@gleniti.school.nz Thanks heaps for your support J

Next Wednesday (16th December) is the official last day of school. Traditionally this is a clean-up morning, and so we ask if you can please keep your children at home. The school will close for the year at 12:00pm.

Congratulations to all those who won Principal Awards at our assembly last week.

Special mention to Stevie Emmerson and Hunter Stevenson who were chosen as our Gleniti Archer in Action recipients last week.

Finally, thankyou everyone for your patience and support during this year of Covid. We simply couldn’t do it without your help. We look forward to seeing you all fit and healthy and ready to go for an exciting 2021 on Monday 1st February.

Ngā mihi, Regards Steve Zonnevylle
