PTA - Raising funds (and FUN!) for Te Kura o Ōhinetahi | Governors Bay School
PTA — January 31, 2021
Our PTA is a very sociable group of parents and teachers who come together to assist our school with providing the best for our tamariki.
We work closely with the children, families, teachers, BOT, and the wider school community to help support the unique and fantastic learning environment that is Governors Bay School.
Please join our Governors Bay School PTA Facebook Group! We use this to advertise upcoming events and fundraising news, as well as requests for parent helpers at events on the rare occasions that they are needed. Please note; there will not be any photos of children on the FB site (unless pre-approved). It is mainly for sharing events and news.

The PTA attends events throughout the year to raise funds, including selling Salmon Burgers at the Governors Bay Fete and running a ‘Pimm's and Iced Tea’ tent at the Banks Peninsula Festival. The big fundraiser for the PTA was the ‘Governors Bay House and Garden Tour’ in 2017, which we hope to replicate in the future. We also run smaller events to raise money, like bake sales and a second hand uniform shop.
We are very excited to be creating and selling “GOV” car-bumper stickers this year! 100% of the profits will go to the GBS PTA. They are available NOW at the school office, Harbour House, and the Pub.
The funds we raise are used to improve the environment and equipment at school, which is over-and-above what the Ministry of Education will fund. We have previously helped the school with annual ski trips, signage, a sandpit play area upgrade, library resources, Yr8 leavers gifts, sporting equipment, and enhancing the outdoor environment to compliment the current refurbishments.
We also enjoy providing various social events throughout the year which are not always about raising funds, but opportunities for children and families to come together and have some fun. Some examples of PTA social events are: School Disco, Pizza PJ & Movie Night, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Hullabaloo, EOY Splish Splash Bash.

In summary, we are a friendly group of parents/teachers who love helping to make Te Kura o Ōhinetahi | Governors Bay School the best it can be. We encourage new members to join us and bring their fresh ideas whenever possible. If you would like to be involved please introduce yourselves to us at school, or contact us as below. We meet on the last Wednesday of every month (during term), usually with a glass of wine! There are always ways in which you can get involved with the PTA, without needing to sign up to any permanent roles.
