Deputy Principal Wellbeing Report

Mr Jason Rea —

Parent Teacher Night and Reports

We thank all staff for their contributions to reports throughout Term 2. By now you should have accessed your son’s report via the Parent Portal. Parent Teacher afternoon has now been rescheduled for Tuesday 26 July. We hope to see as many of you on the day to discuss your sons progress this semester and how you can continue to support them.

Uniform

As the weather gets colder it is important that students are dressed appropriately. This means wearing the school uniform for winter. Please use the holidays to ensure that you have the correct uniform and/or that your uniform fits correctly. If you need to purchase new items do so during the school break through Lowes at Hurtsville or Roselands. As always, the school is here to support and we have a range of second-hand items (in perfect condition).

Strategic Direction 3 – Every Day Counts sees improvements

Attendance is a focus for the school in the current Strategic Improvement Plan. Our school target has been to improve the number of students attending 90% or more. Since 2019 the school has implemented strategies to improve attendance including greater recognition of positive school attendance. The work of our Head Teacher Wellbeing, Head Teacher Secondary Studies, and the Deputy Principal has been instrumental in supporting students to improve. We hope to see continued growth in this area, as attendance is an important component of a student's academic and wellbeing success.

We encourage all our boys to attend every day and arrive to school on time as every day and and every minute counts!

Year 10 into Year 11 Subject Selection

Our current Year 10 cohort have started the transition process to Oatley Senior Campus in 2023. This process has included our Year 10 boys attending the course taster days in Week 3 and then the Subject Selection Information Night at Oatley Campus in Week 9. This Information Night, included a number of important documents to help students make the correct choices for next year. If your son is yet to collect this folder please ask your son to speak to the Year Advisor, Mr Peckham. Students also had the opportunity to attend the Curriculum Expo in Week 10 where the students received guided tours and even more insight to different subjects offered at Oatley.  As such, if students or parents have questions they can contact the careers adviser, Celina Ang or myself for more information.

At the beginning of Term 3, the online subject selection process will open. Students will have 3 weeks to make their choices. These must be finalised and submitted by August 5th at 3pm. Later in Term 3 students will be interviewed by Oatley Senior Campus staff to discuss their final choice selection. Parents are invited to attend these meetings if available, this can take place in person or virtually – depending on your availability. If you would like to know more please contact the school.
