Sports Report

Mr Jeff Derbridge —

We hit the ground running in Term 2 with lots of sporting events taking place.

Our winter grade sport competition got underway, and while a few rounds were disrupted with wet weather, our teams were very eager to finally get back onto the sporting field and represented the school with a high level of sportsmanship. Results have been mixed across our Oztag, soccer and volleyball teams, but we are looking good for several teams to make the finals that will take place midway through Term 3.

The St George Zone Cross Country was held (after a reschedule) on Tuesday May 31 at Gannons Park. The conditions were sunny and our boys had a strong field (and a strong westerly wind) to compete against. Thanks to Miss Fox and Mr Baker who accompanied our students on the day.

From our field of Cross Country participants, a big congratulations to Henry, Dimitri, Martin, Abed, Sid and Jabir who qualified for the Sydney East Cross Country that was held at Miranda Park on Wednesday June 15.

Our school Athletics Carnival was held at The Ridge Athletics Complex on Monday May 30. We were fortunate with a calm and overcast day, so conditions were great for students to display their athletic prowess across the track and field events. A massive thank you to all staff and the volunteer students who helped ensure the carnival ran efficiently. On the day we had several records fall and we will be sending a competitive field to the St George Zone Athletics Carnival, taking place on Thursday June 23 back at The Ridge. Good luck to our boys!

Looking forward into Term 3, our winter grade sport competition will wrap up with finals being held in weeks 4 and 5. The summer sport season will then get underway with students being able to choose from basketball, cricket, mini soccer, and touch football as grade sport options, with the same recreational options being offered. The Sydney East Athletics Carnival will be held at Sylvania Waters Athletics Track on Tuesday August 2 and Wednesday August 3 for our students who performed well at the Zone Carnival.
