News from the Science Desk

Mr Shane Baker —

The Science faculty at GRC Hurstville Boys Campus has been working to deliver high quality teaching & learning opportunities for our students.

The students are to be congratulated for their hard work and dedication as we come to the end of Semester 1 2022.

Science was able to extend students this term with two major shows coming to the school. The first was the Interactive Education Forensics workshop. This hands on presentation allowed students to explore the science behind the role of a forensic investigator. The small group of students from Years 8 and 9 were guided through the challenge of not just solving a crime but justifying their reasoning with the evidence they had obtained.

The second learning experience was with Snake Tails. This interactive presentation introduced our students to the diversity of reptile life that exists in Australia. Under the guidance of the brilliant presenter and reptile handler, students in Year 7 and 8 learnt about our native reptiles and were able to interact with some of them as well.

In the classroom, our students are using the STILE learning platform for Science. This web based learning tool has allowed us to not only make the lessons more dynamic and interactive but also gives students more independence in their learning. Please feel free to ask your son to show what they have been doing in Science on STILE. If you wish to know more about the learning platform you can visit stileeducation.com or contact the Science faculty here at GRC Hurstville Boys Campus.

As we move into Semester 2 a reminder that all information regarding the work and assessment in Science can be found on your son’s Google Classroom page. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Science team and we will be happy to assist.

We look forward to a productive and exciting second semester in Science.
