Support Unit Report
Four enthusiastic and hardworking students commenced their Work Experience Program at Ascalon Industries this term.
The Year 9 and 10 support students travel from school to Kogarah by train every second Tuesday. The students follow the Work, Health and Safety procedures to complete packaging processes in a factory setting. Our thanks go to the staff at Ascalon Industries for providing our students with valuable opportunities to practise their work skills.
This semester the students in SR4 participated in experiments to enhance their understanding of the topic, ‘Being a Scientist’. In the first experiment students learnt about chemical reactions by filling a balloon with baking soda and vinegar. They also participated in an experiment called ‘The Water in a Plastic Bag Trick’. Students took turns to fill a snap lock bag with water before sticking pencils through it. The polymers in the plastic expanded and sealed the holes.
We would like to thank all the staff, students and families of the Support Unit for their hard work and dedication throughout the semester. We hope everyone has a well-deserved break over the holidays and look forward to seeing our students return in Term 3.
