Mr Mark Laverance —

Term 2 has seen a flurry of activity in Maths with students continuing to engage diligently in their learning. Formal assessment of student understanding has continued, with Year 10 sitting their first formal examination.

With the incessant rain finally easing, classes have been able to get outside and apply their mathematical knowledge to practical settings. Year 7 have been exploring the concepts of measurement in the playground to calculate length, perimeter and area. Year 9 applied their knowledge and understanding of trigonometry to calculate the heights of landmarks around the school. Students have really enjoyed the opportunity to make real life connections to their mathematics.

During Term 2, I have had the opportunity to lead the  staff at our Thursday afternoon meetings through a series of professional learning experiences to enhance the teaching and learning of numeracy across all subjects. This has been a fantastic time of collaboration and sharing ideas, strategies, and resources to have a direct impact on our boy's understanding and application of numeracy.
