News from the Special Education Faculty!

Hear from our Relieving Head Teacher — Rimlesh Rai

It is my pleasure to write my first article for the Georges River College Hurstville Campus newsletter in the capacity of Relieving Head Teacher of the Special Education Faculty. I have eight years of experience in teaching students with additional needs and have taught at various schools in the Special Education Unit. I feel proud to be part of the Georges River College Hurstville Campus School community.

I am very enthusiastic about leading the faculty forward. Currently, the Special Education Unit has one multi-categorical class and three Autism classes. The students in the unit integrate into mainstream subjects depending on their strength and ability. The faculty has four teaching staff and four Student Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) comprising a very capable and enthusiastic team.

The new Year 7 students in the Unit were part of the Year 7 school camp and enjoyed the day with the rest of the Year 7 students. The unit has commenced the swimming program for interested students every week on Thursdays until Term 3 at the Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre.

It is also my goal to provide a safe, respectful and engaging learning environment where each student, staff member and parent feels valued. I hope to have a beautiful journey in taking the Special Education Faculty forward in 2022 and beyond.
