Wellbeing at GRC HBC

Bridgette Fox —

It has been a busy term with a wide range of activities, presentations and incursions. We have welcomed Amber Harvie our new Student Support Officer (SSO) to our school community and she will be working with the Wellbeing team to further support our students.

RAISE Mentoring started this term for students who self-nominated. This program connects students with members of the community who take on a mentoring role. Our selected RAISE students are paired with a mentor who they have common interests, values and connect with each other. Once a week they meet and have the opportunity to catch up, chat and ask questions or advice from their chosen mentor.

Year 7 and 8 had the opportunity to view an interactive performance from BrainStorm Productions called: The Hurting Game. This presentation focused on the impact bullying has on young people and how it can be addressed in a range of environments. The boys all thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and took away valuable lessons regarding positively connecting with their peers.

To celebrate Men's Health Week, each year group had the opportunity to engage with a presentation from HeadSpace at Hurstville. Thank you to Ryan and Maxine who shared some valuable information about how young people can support their own and their friends/families' mental health. This presentation was supported by our Youth Worker Shafia and SSO Amber who ran some activities with the students to support and encourage positive mental health.

TRIBE got up and running again this term, run by SLSO Mr Reid. During lunch time on Tuesdays and Thursdays students have the opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities which helps to develop students cognitive abilities and fine motor skills.

We can’t wait for more exciting wellbeing days, programs and activities next term!
