Principal's Report

Kathy Klados —

As we approach the end of another year, it is with great joy that I reflect on the achievements and successes we've experienced at Georges River College Hurstville Campus. The journey of year has been nothing short of inspiring, and it is my pleasure to share some highlights with you in this edition of our newsletter.

Throughout the past months, our dedicated students, committed faculty, and supportive families have come together to create an environment where excellence thrives. From academic accomplishments to artistic endeavours, athletic triumphs to community service initiatives, the spirit of collaboration and achievement has truly defined our school experience.

As we bid farewell to this year, let us celebrate not only the tangible successes but also the intangible growth, resilience, and spirit that have shaped us as individuals and as a school community. Together, we have navigated challenges, embraced opportunities, and fostered a culture of learning and innovation.

I want to express my deepest appreciation to each member of our GRC Hurstville Campus family for their unwavering dedication and contributions. It is the combined effort of students, parents, teachers, and staff that makes our school a vibrant and enriching place for education and personal development.

GR Principals Network Awards

Congratulations to the “Every Day Counts" team, including David Davis, Jason Rea, Mark Laverance and Christopher King for the School Team Award as part of the GR Principals Network Awards. They have played a pivotal role in driving the school's commitment to improving attendance, aligning with Strategic Direction 3. This team has effectively implemented a range of initiatives and interventions that cater to the specific needs of our students and their families. Their proactive, school-wide approach has established clear and consistent expectations for students and their families, particularly those within the 80-90% attendance range, and for those who may be at a higher risk of disengagement.

"Every Day Counts team"

What sets them apart is their diligent evaluative approach, which employs data to identify attendance trends and pinpoint students requiring extra attention. This data-driven process allows them to adapt and refine their strategies continuously, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to improvement. They have navigated challenges with resilience and determination, reflecting the values we instill in our students.

Notably, programs such as ESHAI (Engaging Student Holistic Attendance Initiatives), JAWS (Jumpstart Attendance Whole School), and APRESNT (Attendance Purposefully Responding to System Negotiated Targets) have not only boosted attendance figures but have also nurtured an enhanced sense of belonging among our students.

The "Every Day Counts" team's achievements have positioned our school as a standout example within the network. This award serves as a well-deserved recognition of their exceptional contributions in fostering a culture where every minute of every lesson is valued for learning and development."

Congratulations to Lily Tanoski for being the recipient for School Support Staff Award as part of the GR Principals Network Awards. Her role as School Administration Officer at GRC Hurstville Campus, Lily has consistently demonstrated herself as an invaluable asset to the school.

Lily Tanoski

Her contributions have been nothing short of outstanding. Whether it involves meeting deadlines, assisting colleagues, or managing critical responsibilities, such as attendance procedures, Lily can always be counted on to deliver exceptional results. Lily’s ability to adapt and learn new systems and processes in the finance component in SAP and School Bytes reflects her commitment to continuous improvement.

Her consistency and dependability have created a positive effect throughout the office, setting a high standard for all to follow. Lily collaborates with her colleagues, offering her expertise and support whenever needed. Her willingness to go above and beyond to assist her team members has fostered an environment of mutual respect and collaboration, making the workplace more productive and enjoyable for everyone.

Coeducational Setting

As you are aware the Deputy Premier announced that GRC Hurstville Campus, will each become co-educational, starting with Years 7 and 8 from 2025, and including Years 9 and 10 from 2026.

We are excited about the upcoming transition to a coeducational setting. In 2024, our focus will be on planning and preparing for the inclusion of girls. This includes infrastructure improvements, curriculum planning, elective offerings, and other enhancements. We welcome suggestions and input as we work towards creating an inclusive and thriving learning environment for all students.

I am confident in our ability to create a strong coeducational environment, and we have already initiated planning to ensure the school's success in this transition. I'll be sure to keep you informed as we progress into 2024.
