PDHPE —

It has been another busy term with all year groups working well in both practical and theory lessons. All years have been working hard to complete their assessment tasks. We would like to congratulate all students for their dedication and hard work this term!

This term Year 7 have been busily working through the Transition and Change unit in theory, where they look at both the physical, mental and emotional changes that occur throughout adolescence and who they can access for support. In practical lessons they have engaged in a range of target games, one of the most recent being a golf lesson. Year 8 have been studying Consumer Health and investigating what and where they can find reliable health information for young people. In practical lessons they have participated in volleyball, badminton and up-ball in the Net/Court unit.

Year 9 have focused on media perceptions and how these can have both a positive and negative impact on young people’s identity. In practical classes they have engaged in a range of invasion games including: soccer, touch football, Oztag, basketball and zone ball.

Year 10 have studied the Wisdom: Risk taking topic this term which looks at risk taking behaviours, drugs and alcohol and the impact this can have on young people. This unit has been supported through a presentation from Independent Drug Education Australia. The presentation was informative and engaging with Australian case studies and statistics shared with the students. In practical lessons Year 10 have participated in a range of striking and fielding games, strengthening their hand-eye coordination and teamwork skills.

As a school we have had a few facility upgrades occur this term. The top basketball court has new backboards and rims installed and we have also installed a volleyball court at the top of the oval. Both of these facilities are fantastic additions to the school and students have really enjoyed using these during PDHPE practical lessons, recess and lunch breaks as well as competing against other schools during Wednesday afternoon Grade Sport.

The PDHPE department are looking forward to an exciting Term 3!
