Careers News - Semester 1, 2022

Ms Celina Ang —

It has been a very busy semester for Year 10, their teachers and all staff in the office.

We arranged White Card Training in Term 1 and an excursion to the HSC & Careers Expo at The Hordern Pavilion - Moore Park in Term 2. A big shout out to our Year 10 Year Advisor, Mr Andrew Peckham and Year 10 HELP teachers: Ms Angela Aboushadi, Ms Marina Rasic and Mr Dimitri Polyzoidis.

White Card Training

Recently, we invited a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), ForkTime to undertake the 7 hour course with some of our students to obtain their white card.

Our students were extremely well behaved, highly engaged and an extra bonus was that all 9 candidates PASSED and now have their white card licences. The students are:

  • Hassan. A
  • Abbas. D
  • Mohammed. E
  • Ali. K
  • Khalil. M
  • Mahdi. M
  • Ibrahim. M
  • Hassan. T
  • Hayz. W

Congratulations to all these students.

HSC & Careers Expo

In Term 2, fifty-nine Year 10 students had an opportunity to attend the HSC & Careers Expo. The excursion encouraged and fostered a deeper understanding of subject choices and career pathways for our students. It was a great experience for our Year 10 students.

Year 10 - Subject Selection

Year 10 students are in the process of gathering information to assist in their subject selections for their transition to senior education. Although there are many post-school options and pathways to university or college, choosing the right courses for your HSC can make it easier for students to succeed in their studies. When making decisions regarding subject selection, we encourage students to:

1. Identify your end goal

Set aside some time to imagine what you would like to do after you finish school, whether you plan to work or study.

2. Consider your abilities and interests

Choosing subjects you enjoy and perform well in.

3. Explore career opportunities

Speak to family, friends, teachers and the careers adviser. If you’re not sure about the career path you want to follow, choose subjects that will keep several options open to you.

4. Research study options

When choosing subjects it is important to research any prerequisites, recommended studies and/or assumed knowledge necessary for entry to different degrees at university.

There are two great careers websites that will provide a huge range of careers and course information recommending to students are:

Work Experience

Work experience helps students to put classroom learning into practice, decide if they like the job/industry and prepare for life after school. Work Experience paperwork includes Student Placement Record, Employers Guide and Carers Guide. They are available at the Careers Adviser’s office or online at the department’s website.

In Term 2, our Year 10 students have completed the two courses: ‘Be COVID Safe in 2022’ and Myworkexperience. They are free online courses to help students prepare for work experience. Students receive a work experience ready certificate on course completion.
