More exciting Career Pathways opportunities for Year 10 students at GRC Hurstville Campus this term!

Western Sydney University: The BluePrint Business Idea Competition for Year 10 students GRC Hurstville Campus Year 10 team - one of the 5 finalist teams!

The BluePrint Business Idea Competition is a Western Sydney University initiative to engage with Year 10 high school students interested in a Career in Business. The competition is designed to help students pursue new business ideas. It also empowers students through business education and enrichment opportunities and provides first-hand experience in entrepreneurship. The aim of the business idea is to solve a customer problem and students are required to conceptualise, build and market a business. The competition involves the creation, submission and presentation of original content that highlights the business idea.

The Competition finals were held at the Western Sydney University School of Business building, 169 Macquarie Street, Parramatta from 4pm-7pm Friday, 8 November 2024.

There were a record number of schools participating in the Competition this year and only 5 schools made it to the finals. Each team had 10 minutes to present their business idea to the panel of judges, followed by a 5 minute gruelling Q & A.

At the end of the evening WSU announced that the Year 10 GRC Hurstville Campus Team got 5th place in this prestigious competition.

Congratulations to our team of five Year 10 students:

Nathan D, Jansen J, Man K, Rudra P and Steven S

The team received a trophy and $100 JB Hi-Fi gift card each.

Congratulations again to the students on their outstanding achievement.

Year 10 Work Experience in Week 6 – A Week of Insights and Opportunities!

Last week, our Year 10 students took part in the highly anticipated Work Experience Week, an initiative aimed at giving them a taste of the workforce and helping them explore potential career pathways. Over five days, students ventured into diverse industries, including law, education, banking, construction, automotive, hospitality, retail, and technology, gaining hands-on experience and a better understanding of workplace expectations.

Students focused on developing key employability skills such as teamwork, communication, and time management. The program also allowed students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, sparking new ambitions and interests.

A huge thank you goes out to the many businesses and organisations that hosted our students, offering them invaluable mentorship and support.

ADF Career Presentation to Year 10

This term, our Year 10 students had the privilege of hearing from Guest Speakers from the Australian Defence Force (ADF), who provided valuable insights into the diverse career opportunities available within the ADF. The presentation was part of our school’s commitment to supporting students in exploring a variety of pathways as they begin to consider their futures beyond high school.

The guest speakers captivated the students with stories of personal experiences and detailed the wide range of roles available, from engineering and healthcare to trades and logistics. Students also learned about the importance of teamwork, leadership, and resilience—key skills that are highly valued in the ADF and applicable to many professions.

One highlight of the session was the interactive Q&A, where students asked thoughtful questions about the recruitment process, training, and the lifestyle of serving in the ADF.

We thank the ADF representatives for taking the time to share this invaluable information and inspire our students to consider the exciting possibilities that a career in the Defence Force can offer.
