Space Day 2025 is coming to Sydney these school holidays

Linda Kandylas —

This October, Sydney will host the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2025) – one of the world’s biggest science and space events. As part of the celebrations, the NSW Department of Education will showcase Young Space Explorers on Friday 3 October 2025 at the International Convention Centre Sydney - a headline activation for IAC 2025 Space Day and Space Week.

This free event is the perfect school holiday outing for students and their families, with hands-on science, space, and technology experiences including:

  • Astronaut encounters – meet and hear from real astronauts, including Australia’s own Katherine Bennell-Pegg

  • VR Space Cadets training – step into the role of an astronaut on a virtual spacewalk

  • Mars rover challenges – drive rovers across giant maps of the Moon and Mars

  • LEGO® Space Design Lab – build space-inspired designs

  • Live science shows with interactive experiments and demonstrations

  • Mission Patch Competition display – showcasing the creativity of students across NSW

We’d love your help to make families aware of this unique opportunity, and encourage them to register. Suggestions include:

  • Adding Space Day details to your school newsletter

  • Posting the registration link on your school’s social media channels

  • Announcing the event in classrooms and assemblies

  • Encouraging staff to share with their networks
